Cookie policy
The short version
- Optional analytics is off until you allow it. Nothing optional runs, and no analytics request is made, before you choose.
- We use no advertising or marketing cookies, pixels or conversion tracking.
- The one thing we store on your device is a record of your own choice, so we can honour it.
- You can change or withdraw your choice at any time.
What we use, by category
Essential
Always on, because the site cannot honour your choice without it. We store one record in your browser’s local storage under the name shaystools-consent. It is local storage, not a cookie. It holds your choices for each category, the date you made them and a version number. It holds no identifier and is not sent to us or to anyone else. It stays until you change it or clear your browser’s site data, and we ask you again after 12 months or if we add a new technology.
The figures you enter into a tool are held only while the page is open and are gone when you leave or reload it. They are not stored.
Analytics (only if you allow it)
If you choose “Accept all”, or switch Analytics on in your preferences, we load Vercel Web Analytics, provided by Vercel Inc., which also hosts this site. It counts page views so we can see which pages and tools are used. It runs from this site’s own address and sends its data to this site’s own address.
How Vercel describes it, in its documentation (we have not independently audited Vercel’s service):
- It does not use third-party cookies. Visitors are identified by a hash created from the incoming request, and that visitor session is discarded after 24 hours.
- Each page view may record the time, the page address, the referrer, filtered query parameters, approximate location (country, region and city), device operating system and version, browser and version, device type and the analytics script version.
- The data is used for aggregated statistics, not to identify individuals.
We add no cookie of our own for analytics. Vercel’s documentation says it guarantees to keep aggregated page-view data available for analysis for a reporting window, which is at least 12 months on the plan we use, and that it may keep it for longer. It does not state a maximum period, so we cannot give one here. The calculators do not put the figures you enter into the page address, so they are not part of what is counted.
Marketing
We do not use any advertising or marketing cookies, pixels or conversion tracking. Your preferences panel lists the Marketing category so you can see it is off. If we ever add one, we will update this page, name it here and ask for your consent before it runs.
Your choices
- When you first visit you can accept all, reject optional, or manage preferences. Rejecting is as easy as accepting.
- You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer of every page, or the button above.
- Withdrawing stops further analytics from your device straight away. Because the data does not identify you, we cannot find and delete page views counted earlier.
- Your browser can also block or clear site data. If it blocks local storage, your choice is remembered only until you close the page, and you will be asked again.
Links to other websites
If you follow a link to another website, including Shays Media, that site may use cookies under its own policy.
If this changes
If we add or change a technology that uses cookies or similar storage, we will update this page first and, before anything non-essential runs, ask for your consent again.
